Light, floating imagery of a child-like imagination is rendered in these delightfully elegant sculptures. The world of these children and young men and women is carefree, fun-filled and simply joyful.
Zhang Hua received his training at the Sculpture Department of Hebei Arts and Crafts School in the North Chinese Province. Subsequently, he went on to study at the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts. The award-winning sculptor now lives and works at his studio near Beijing.
His works have been showcased in various cities including Beijing, Dong Yang, Fuzhou and Seoul. Some of his sculptures were recently installed at the Beijing's International Sculpture Park, which houses a wide variety of works by leading contemporary Chinese sculptors, the China Olympic Park. He was rewarded the Silver award for his flowing, eloquent piece, Water Beauties at the international competition, 2008 Olympic Landscape Sculpture Design Collection Contest. Zhang Hua’s sculptures are expressively portrayed in flowing lines. The figures often have elongated bodies, so that they appear supple and lithe. His subjects center around children, engrossed in their playful games, sometimes just about to fly or glide. The easy charm of his works brings back to magical quality of childhood days.
At Mulan Gallery a rich selection of Zhang Hua’s works can be found. These include the Flower Charm, Happy Family to Eagle Catching Chicks and his signature work Sea Breeze. Each piece is remarkable in capturing the innocence of unadulterated desire for simple things such as wings!
