INSTINC presents Ethnography, a solo exhibition by Leanne Dunic (Canada). All the works are new and are created during their one month residency in Singapore at INSTINC’s AIR programme. Ethnography is an experiential-poetic work that explores ethnic confluence. The installation uses space and text as a vehicle to express isolation, identity, and longing while providing context for viewers to consider our ever-blending world. The work challenges the notion that culture is static. Ethnography maps a society that does not imply perfection, but flux, growth, and hybridity. About the artist:

Leanne is a multi-disciplinary artist from Vancouver, Canada. She is rich in dreams and experiences, which she documents through images and words. In her practice, Leanne reflects on cycles within the natural world and human life, while drawing awareness to artefacts, seemingly mundane and fleeting. Her work explores the dichotomies of biology/culture, masculine/feminine, and spiritual/material. Being of mixed-race (her mother is Chinese, her father is Croatian), much of Leanne’s work possesses hybrid-identity themes. Her work offers interpretations of the elements that comprise our environment, and the co-existence of tradition and modernity. Leanne is particularly inspired by Japanese techniques and its influence is unmistakable. Leanne’s work has won several honours and been featured in Canada, Singapore, Japan, China, the UK and the USA. Leanne is the singer/guitarist of the band Luck Commander.
