Let's dance for forever and a day
by Fill Your Walls
Location: Fill Your Walls
Artist(s): TAN Chee Seong
Date: 13 Aug - 22 Aug 2010

Tan Chee Seong (born 1975, Singapore) is a practicing artist and lecturer at Singapore Polytechnic, School of Media and Info-Communication Technology. “Let’s dance for forever and a day” – at fill your walls gallery, is his first solo exhibition.

Born into a Singapore working class family, art was not considered a viable career option and circumstances called for Tan Chee Seong to make the pragmatic choice of pursuing a career in engineering rather than that of an artist.

The exhibition theme actually comes from lyrics of "Those were the days" by Mary Hopkin. It features four of Tan Chee Seong’s ongoing series of works covering a number of personal narratives common to contemporary Singaporeans:
- Remember - "memory is something we accumulate in our journey only to lose it in death, however we could be living testament in others’ memory, but how long will that last."
- Fade - "a continuation to the remember series, what will you do to hold on to what is around you before they slowly fades away while you are not looking."
- State - "objects are everywhere, you and I are objects. At any one point of time we are in a certain state determine by the values of our attributes."
- Project Me - "life is too short to be too hard on ourselves all the time, take a break, laugh at ourselves sometimes, it helps."

Ungoverned by formal theories and methodologies, this self-taught artist freely explores mediums and techniques beyond their usual application.  Using photocopied papers and correction pens found at work, to photographs from a weekend outing, his technique incorporates found items which relate to an exploration of identity.
