fill your walls, an art gallery dedicated to promoting affordable art by emerging local artists presents “I am a Kampung Boy”, a solo exhibition by Zak Yeo Zhixiong.

On the surface, Zak's kitschy renderings of collective memories specific to his generation serves to create a vibrant, surrealistic world that doesn't take itself too seriously. Underlying the imagery is the struggle to reconcile and understand where we have come from and where we are going.

A recent graduate from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London (BA Fine Art 2009), Zak was the recipient of the Most Promising Young Artist Award, UOB Painting of the Year Competition (2001) and the Melvill Nettleship Prize in Fine Art, Slade School of Art, University College London (2007 and 2008).

“I am a Kampung Boy” by Zak Yeo Zhixiong runs from 30 March till 18 April 2010 at the fill your walls gallery, which is located at 21 Tanjong Pagar Road #04-02.
