Born in Liaoning Province in 1960, Chen Shuzhong graduated from Shenyang Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 1984. After years of involvement in art education and focusing on the theme of oil paintings about north China’s farmers, Chen was admitted to postgraduate college of oil painting in his Alma Mater, specializing in large-sized oil paintings. He published his first personal art collections in 1996, won the" Mountain Arts Foundation " Luo Zhongli painting scholarship in Taiwan in 1997, and received his master degree in Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts plus holding solo exhibition in the Art Museum of the college. As members of Chinese Artists Association, China Oil Painting Society as well as professor of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts and master student supervisor, Chen was awarded the title of "Outstanding Young University Teacher in Chongqing Municipality” by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission in 2004. He published China contemporary oil painter Chen Shuzhong in 2005 and was named one of the outstanding teachers of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 2005. In the next year, he was awarded one of the art field talents in Chongqing. In 2008, his painting of The Ancient Fengjie Town in the pulling down for the Three Gorges Reservoir earned him the honor of the fourth Literary Arts Award issued by the Chongqing municipal government.

Starting from 1991, Chen has been participating in a wide spectrum of art exhibitions, such as the first, second and third Chinese Oil Painting Exhibitions, the Chinese Oil Painting Biennale, the Eighth National Art Exhibition, Toward the New Century - China Youth Oil Painting Exhibition, the Ninth National Art Exhibition, Embracing the New Century - Third China Oil Painting Exhibition, the Eighth National Etching, Lithograph and Silkscreen Prints Exhibition, the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute of Contemporary Art Exhibition, the Tenth National Art Exhibition, the Second National Exhibition of Chinese Landscape Painting, the 2005 Beijing International Art Biennale, Today’s Chinese Art(Korea, Japan), Spirit and Character - Contemporary Realistic Oil Painting Exhibition, the 1976--2006 Inheritance and Surpassing: three decades of Sichuan School of Painting, 2010 the Fourth Beijing International Art Biennale, Oil Painting and Contemporary Society - Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition, etc. Many of his works and articles are published by magazines and picture albums like Fine Arts Chinese Oil Painting, MEIYUAN – Journal of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Contemporary Artists, Fine Arts Grand Sight, Northern Arts and Oil Painting Art.
