1893 Born on May 28th in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China. 1915 Graduated from Provincial Art Teachers’ Training College in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China. 1915-1917 Taught at Siming High School. 1918-1929 Taught at Jimei Teachers’ Training College when it was established in 1918. 1923 Co-Founder of Xiamen Academy of Fine Arts. 1936 Invited to teach in The Chinese High School, Singapore. 1937 Established NAFA at 167, Geylang. Taught at The Chinese High School, Singapore. 1938 NAFA was officially registered in April. Besides being the Founding Principal and Dean of studies, he taught watercolor and oil painting. Much saddened due to the demise of his wife in Hong Kong. He consequently became more determined to promote Arts in Singapore. 1939 Due to expansion, NAFA shifted to 93, Serangoon Road. 1940 Graduation of NAFA’s first student cohort. 1942 With the fall of Singapore during the Second World War, the Academy was closed. He then went to the Anti-Japanese Headquarters in the ‘Chin Kang Clan Association’ and assisted in the public work, gathering data for the Anti-Japanese campaign. 1946 NAFA reopened at 49, St Thomas Walk in 1946, after the Second World War. 1949 His talk on ‘Art and Life’ was broadcast over the Radio Malaya in Singapore. 1962 On June 3rd honored by the Singapore Government for the receipt of the Meritorious Award for his contribution to the society. 1963 Passed away at the age of 73 on 14th February at 9.15pm.
