Mirage
In Mirage, Mao Tongqiang retains, retraces history and raises doubts. Through the baptism of deconstructionism, he realizes that earnest questioning is perhaps not an effective approach as the past can never be clearly ascertained and that everyone can re-define it. This stance is naturally derived from Cynical Realism, where questioning is given up. However, Mao Tongqiang believes that this giving up is, in fact, a change of approach and perspective. When applied to art, the result of abandonment is a re-organization of visual resources. Consequently, in his hart, with this alignment disintegrated, historical figures and common folk can co-exist against a backdrop of history and have all become passengers of the past and today.
