In Collaboration with Myanmar Fine Art International, Art Seasons Gallery presents Myanmar artist Zaw Win Pe's solo exhibition: Motley & Me. In Zaw Win Pe’s abstract canvas depictions, he captures a distinct sense of place and intrinsic identity. Most of Zaw Win Pe’s landscape artworks are influenced by his visits to the North Eastern State of Shan. Through his visual commentaries, they present a unique and intimate opportunity to explore some of the rich complexities of Shan State’s diverse socio-cultural environments.
Zaw Win Pe lays emphasis on the emotive quality of a painting by focusing on colors as an effective agent of expression. In Zaw Win Pe’s naturalistic landscapes, colors have been used to infer his emotional state. Using the palette knife to achieve the desired effect of overlaid colors and bolder textures, he creates a display of richness and certainly of enjoyment. Today, Zaw Win Pe is hailed as one of Myanmar's strongest colorists. He once said: “I am inspired by landscape themes, not with the thought of painting particular places, but of expressing elemental moods and emotions. But the paintings never lack the geographical and environmental characteristics of the places I paint. Color is the key element for me. I believer color can tell everything about human’s feelings and thoughts.”
Zaw Win Pe (b. 1960) studied at the State School of Fine Art from 1981 to 1984. His works have been displayed at numerous exhibitions in Myanmar, Thailand (Chiang Mai), Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, San Francisco, New York, Paris, Milan, and Rome. Zaw Win Pe is the winner of the Myanmar Contemporary Art Awards in 2004 and 2008. His works are collected by Singapore National Art Museum, Residency Art Malaysia and the Embassy of the United States of America in Yangon.
