Shi Lifeng's solo exhibition
by Yang Gallery
Location: Yang Gallery Singapore
Artist(s): SHI Lifeng
Date: 12 Jul - 12 Aug 2010

Shi Lifeng was born in 1986 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province and studied at the Heibei Normal University. His paintings display an evolution from the Socialist Realism to the starting points of Expressive Individualism in Chinese contemporary art.

Groups of people are intertwined and climbing in a silent space and in a boundless universe where they are desperately searching for hope, unaware of the danger that surrounds them. They remain ignorant of their situation as they struggle upward.

The Red Men series work through a visual sensation of contrast and question: Where do they come from and where will they go? The artist has developed this theme by observing people whom came from poor circumstances but want to reach a better position of higher status. In Shi's works, Chairman Mao is depicted as the symbol of high position in the Chinese Society.

Shi Lifeng's works have gained international recognition with exhibitions within China as well as in France, Denmark and Sweden, just to name a few. Interestingly, the album 'Chinese Democracy' from the band 'Guns n' Roses' features Shi Lifeng's work as the cover.
