Robert Zhao Renhui’s work is based on the concept of doubt and uncertainty and in his creation, The Institute of Critical Zoologists (ICZ). Zhao works mainly in photography, but often adopts a multi-disciplinary approach by presenting images together with documents and objects, in order to test the principles behind the dissemination of knowledge and to challenge the ways in which we commonly receive and accept information. He has exhibited at The Singapore Art Museum (President's Young Talent 2013), Jendela (Singapore), Fukouka Art Museum (Japan), Photo Levallois (Paris), Seoul Arts Center (Korea) and The Arts Gallery (London). His work has also been awarded The Deutsche Bank Award in Photograph (London), 2011 and The United Overseas Bank Painting of the Year Award (2009). In 2010, he was awarded The Young Artist Award by the Singapore National Arts Council. Zhao is one of the Singapore Biennale 2013 artists with a new commissioned works “A Guide to Flora and Fauna of the World” at The Peranakan Museum.
