Sunjin Galleries is pleased to present the Singapore installment of Chua Boon Kee’s traveling exhibition, “Calligraphy in Motion”. Having had successful showcases in Taiwan and Shanghai last year, Chua's solo tour features his distinctive calligraphy sculptures which combine the essence of traditional Chinese calligraphy with modern sculpture language.
Chua was educated in Applied Sculpture at the Baharuddin Vocational Institute, under the tutelage of Singapore's prominent Sculptor Tan Teng Kee. After many years of working and managing a hydraulic engineering business, he devoted himself to sculpture work as a full-time artist in 1997. He has since participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the region, and has completed over 20 private and public commissioned works. In 2007, he was invited by Sculpture Square (Singapore) as the featured artist for “One Singapore Artist 2007". In the same year, he was invited by Ministry of Culture (China) as a recognized outstanding overseas Chinese artist to showcase his well-loved Chinese calligraphy sculpture series in the “2nd China International Artistic Works Investment & Collection Exposition”.
