KUNDALINI
by Indigo Blue Art
Location: Indigo Blue Art
Artist(s): Sohan QADRI
Date: 4 Mar - 1 Apr 2010

Sohan Qadri, one of India’s most accomplished Masters of Indian Contemporary Art, presents his latest collection at Indigo Blue Art. Qadri has participated in over 100 international exhibitions worldwide, with his works included in numerous prestigious and international collections.

The multifaceted artist, who is also a renowned poet and tantric guru, has contributed significantly to the success of Indian Art globally. His works play an important role in defining the cultural heritage of India.

Because of the spiritual nature of his works, Qadri has gained recognition amongst the Buddhist community worldwide, which includes celebrities such as Richard Gere.

An ex-Buddhist monk, Qadri paints in a meditative state as he believes in establishing contact with the world within him. The notions of Life, Art and Spirituality are deeply explored and closely interlinked to form a significant union in his works.

Qadri embraces the deep subliminal levels of his consciousness - symbols, forms, colours and spaces arise spontaneously from his inner being. He begins with a clear and empty mind and next fills his paper with splashes of colours, which he describes as emptiness and peace combined in a radiation of power.

His treatment of colours is heightened by the process of incisions on the other side of the paper, allowing for a clear distinction of opposite elements of colour and texture entering the paper, rather like the yin-yang diagrams of Buddhist ritual art.

His works can be experienced from different angles: as a deep and symbolic form that accompanies the search for deeper insight; as a colouristic and structural expression, without reference to any particular connotation; or, equally valid as an aesthetically restful and undemanding experience.
