Survival
by Taksu Singapore
Location: Taksu Singapore
Artist(s): Najib Ahmad BAMADHAJ
Date: 28 May - 14 Jun 2015

TAKSU Singapore is pleased to present ‘Survival’, a solo exhibition by Malaysian artist Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj. Expressing his concerns about endangered animals and animal rights, Najib adapts stenciling and marking techniques normally used by street artists to visualise his feelings onto canvas. The body language of the animals in his artworks mirrors the sadness of the animals’ plight to the viewer. Developing from his previous ‘Migration’ series, which exposes the destruction of animal habitats as a result of human greed and the obsession with money and development, ‘Survival’ explores the idea of survival as animals migrate from their natural habitats to the urban jungle.

Najib Bamadhaj (b. 1987, Malaysia) completed his BFA in Fine Art, majoring in painting at UiTM Shah Alam in Selangor, Malaysia. To date, Najib had participated in numerous group exhibitions, among which: Endangered, a two-man show with Hirzaq Harris at TAKSU KL (2011), Visual Art Award (2011), LiFest at MAPKL (2011), HIMPUN at National Art Gallery KL (2010), and many others. Najib was the Finalist of MRCB Art Awards at National Art Gallery KL (2008), 1st Prize Winner in Tanjong Heritage Art Competition in Kuala Lumpur (2010), and Finalist of VAA in Kuala Lumpur (2011). Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj currently lives and works in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
