Li Zhibao was born in 1952 in Jianghua, Hunan. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Hunan Normal University, in 1976 and then went to work in Tibet. In 2001, he took an advanced class in painting in rich-colour and mineral pigments conducted by the Ministry of Culture. His work in Tibet earned him the title “Outstanding Ethnic Artist” in 2001. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Tibetan Artists Association, Vice-President of the Tibetan Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, Chairman of the Lhasa Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and a member of the Chinese Artists Association.
