Han Shuli was born in 1948 in Beijing, China. In 1973, he left for Tibet to practise art and to lead a study group on religion and folk art. In 1980, he was accepted into the Central Institute of Fine Arts. Considered one of the top 100 artists at the end of twentieth century, he was conferred the title of National First Grade Artist in 1988. He is Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region Federation of Literature and Art Circles, and of the Tibetan Artists Association; President of the Tibetan Painting and Calligraphy College; and a member of the China Art and Literature Union.
