Michael Janssen Singapore presents works on paper and paintings by Wong Lip Chin. A study for the ongoing series Thousand Knives, the painting If You Say there Ain‘t No Way That I could Know. You Know Them All, I Know It All plays on the relationship between the image of and on a painting - and its presentation as an object. Partially obscured, instead of displaying the pain- ted image, it displays a compromise of its function to do so.

From a series of aerosol drawings made during a period of artistic frustration, these pieces have the bold looseness of Lip‘s early doodles, most of which referred to pop culture characters he grew up with. They demonstrate a casual sophistication and surefooted familiarity with both the medium and subject.
