Persistence of Vision, a solo exhibition by Urich Lau, marks a number of key stages in the artist’s practice since he started working with video in 2004. It features video works, experimental photography and prints. The works are inspired by fundamental concepts in moving and still images, action and interactivity, electronic technicality and filmic aesthetics. The exhibition showcases three series of videos and prints, each dealing with the perception of images in motion, including afterimages and images ingrained in memory. Using appropriation as a main mode of operation, the artist reformulates segments of well-known black-and-white films as conceptual, narrative and formalistic pieces that reflect on issues in contemporary art.
