Singapore–Ikkan Art Gallery is pleased to present MetalWorks, an exhibition of new works by American fine art photographer, H. Hugh Miller. This is the first solo presentation of his works in Singapore and Asia. Miller’s unique photographic approach engages with the materiality of urban architecture, capturing facades of buildings with his lens before printing them on large format gold and silver-plated metallic sheets.
Uncovering new visual patterns and unusual perspectives in the cityscapes of London, Singapore, New York and the US Midwest, Miller’s photographs reflect the steely condition of modern metropolises while refracting on themselves – the metallic prints accentuates the mirrored surfaces of skyscrapers and imbues them with softness and luminosity akin to a painterly sensibility.
Miller marries his propensity for aesthetic complexity and material experimentation with a sensuous and textural exploration of his subject matter. Also exhibited will be Miller’s earlier series of amorphous waterscapes, printed in the same technique for this occasion. Photographs from this series have been exhibited in the US, France and Italy.
