Yeo Chee Kiong’s interest in the function of everyday objects is continued here as he recreates a dining room where people can gather together to talk about anything over a meal. However, is this really a dining room and who and where are the guests? This focal point of the installation is a long table made out of six round Chinese antique tables, whose surface is no longer a receptacle for food and drink but is filled with water. The visual representation of a table is in conflict with the actual physical functionality of the actual object. It may look like a table, but if it cannot function as one, can it still be considered a table…
