Better Than Nature
by Richard Koh Fine Art Singapore
Location: Richard Koh Fine Art
Artist(s): Robert LANGENEGGER
Date: 8 Mar - 22 Mar 2012

Richard Koh Fine Art (RKFA) Singapore is proud to present Filipino-Swiss artist, Robert Langenegger (b. 1983) solo exhibition, BETTER THAN NATURE in Singapore. The exhibition, which will be on at our gallery from 8 – 22 Mar 2012, is in collaboration with Finale Art File, Philippines.

BETTER THAN NATURE shows Langenegger's new works in acrylic on paper: scenes filled with dark humor, stories gone askew and awry. Langenegger takes a bemused look at wild filth of the world and the state of crisis and instability cutting through society and nature, capturing the ironic and the comical aspects of strange and everyday tragedies.

The lessons of Langenegger's disturbing fables reflect instances which often prove that life is stranger than fiction. Snakes are crucified for others of his kind to behold; a burst of lightning strikes a painter atop a dark horse. Langenegger's paintings are not necessarily a gesture of despair, but the matter-of-fact testimony of one who gets up and luckily lives to tell the tale.

The exhibit is Langenegger's first solo show in Singapore. He has held solo and group exhibitions in Manila, Malaysia, Austria and New York since 2003, when he first exhibited his works at the artist-run space Big Sky Mind in Manila. Langenegger studied Fine Arts at Kalayaan College and the University of the Philippines in Quezon City and received a residency from the Talmart Gallery in Paris in 2009. He was a finalist for the 2008 Sovereign Art Prize.
