By shining the spotlight on the architectural "darlings of yesteryear" such as the iconic National Museum and the shop houses of Ann Siang Hill, "Traces" celebrates not only their significance in the history of Singapore but also their place in our personal memories and past.
Dyn has developed this series from a personal fascination with the coexistence of old and new architectural landmarks. This juxtaposition of old versus new is highlighted through the use of the dynamic fresh colours chosen by the artist to depict the buildings.
On Saturday 9 April 2011 at 3 pm, a talk will be presented by Andrew YG Tan in the gallery in conjunction with Dyn's exhibition (supported by the National Heritage Board's Heritage Industry Incentive Programme - Hi2P). Admission is free, kindly RSVP to: rsvp@chanhampegalleries.com.
About the Artist
Dyn graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts from the open university in 2006. As well as being a part-time lecturer at the Little Art Bug Workshop (LABW) Dyn is currently also a part-time lecturer at the LASALLE College of the Arts for Visual studies Foundation.
Working with the notions of time, displacement and memories that we associate with mainly inanimation objects, Dyn aims to offer the audience an opportunity to make an emotional connection with spaces and places featured in his paintings. Working around the sense of nostalgia and how certain objects allow people to reconnect with elements of their past, Dyn aims to highlight the importance of our personal and cultural history.
