Consciousness precede universes
by Chan Hampe Galleries Tanjong Pagar
Location: Chan Hampe Galleries Tanjong Pagar
Artist(s): ZHOU Jixuan
Date: 27 Dec 2010 - 9 Jan 2011

Chan Hampe Galleries presents “Conciousness Precedes Universes”, the fourth solo exhibition by local emerging artist Jixuan Zhou.  Jixuan is the resident artist at Canvass Studio and also a member of the artist collective “Two Right Feet”.

Jixuan’s interests lie in existential issues and the constant exploration of alternative “truths” often illustrated using clown-like characters called “Kouklens”. By using her art as a tool to bring her thought processes into concrete forms, Jixuan paintings take shape in irregular forms that have an almost sculptural quality to them.

This exhibition explores the question of whether we really are the result of universal circumstance or, alternatively, if the universe is a result of our consciousness.
