Chan Hampe Galleries presents "Here Nor There” the first Singapore solo exhibition by Berlin-based, Australian artist Karla Marchesi.

"Here Nor There" illustrates interactions between nature and the urban environment to metaphoric effect. Inspired by her observational wanderings around the streets of Berlin, Marchesi's monochromatic paintings present scenes of unruly vegetation framing austere urban facades and reclaiming overlooked city landscapes. Animated by her subtractive drawing technique, severed tree trunks and foliage canopies shift in and out of the picture plane, suspended somewhere between emerging and receding, reality and dreamscape, neither here nor there.

Concerning itself with the space and tension found between states of becoming, this collection captures both the artist's experience of living between two geographies, Brisbane and Berlin, and serves as a portrait for the latter—its complex history, and ability to flourish amidst the cracks found in even the most futile of places.
