Preceding Eric Chan's highly anticipated solo exhibition of new works, Chan Hampe Galleries will present a snapshot retrospective of his paintings from 2005-2010 during the month of October. Amongst the works featured will be the artist's signature floral paintings, imbued with a distinctive glowing aura, which have captured the global attention of private and public collectors alike.
Then, in November of this year, Chan Hampe Galleries @ Raffles Hotel will exhibit an entirely new series in a bold new direction never before taken by the artist. A watershed exhibition, Chan takes great personal risk by painting with a brutal honesty, reflective of the artist’s deep personal struggle to accept the past and embrace the uncertainty of the future.
As one of Singapore’s leading artists, Eric Chan has already gained recognition within Asia and abroad as one of the finest painters of his generation, with representative galleries in Singapore, Hong Kong, and London. The artist's distinctive sensibility combined with his vision and confidence belies his years, securing his position as one of Singapore’s most exciting and recognised contemporary artists. This exhibition offers viewers the chance to revisit the foundation of Eric Chan's artistic practice, before his latest series of works is unveiled in his November exhibition at Chan Hampe Galleries.
About the Artist
Eric Chan (b. Malaysia, 1975) is based in Singapore and holds a Masters Degree in Fine Art from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts. His diffused images and enticing use of colour create an aesthetic of desire, a sensory reading of beauty and memory. His works have been collected by corporations and institutions, as well auctioned by Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
