Korean artist Choi Jae IL creates glazed ceramic tile work as if they were paint­ings. His unique tile art are influenced by Op Art of the 60's. The illusionary colour influ­enced one's way of perception and challenge viewers visual perception of his artworks. Bands of colour and elements weave and change their appearances according to the viewer perspec­tive.and where he stands. Their illusionistic surface and construction invites a visual investigation on the part of the viewer.

About the Artist


Born in 1973, Choi obtained both his BFA and MFA at the Kyunghee, Suwon Korea in 1998 and 2003. Choi has exhibited in Korea and debuts in Hong Kong last year, and was invited to participate at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale in 2005. Choi currently lectures at Sangmyung University, Sangi University, Mokwon University and Yeoju Institute of Technology.
