by Moni Gallery
Location: Moni Gallery
Artist(s): Low Y. S
Date: 1 Jan - 31 Jan 2011

Low feels strongly that a good piece of art is one where the artist has put in her soul, not just a feeble attempt at capturing likeness, or the physical appearance of subject matter. Art has to do with seaching for what lies underneath superficial vision. Painting should be of ideas and feelings manifested in terms of colours, textural qualities, tonal relationships, rhythmic movements and composition. Such is the rationale behind Ms Low's work. Low had her initial art training at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Her early works were academic and she painted in oils and watercolour. She also has a grounding in Chinese calligraphy. Her work is slowly evolving from a representational to a non figurative art form. Her heart and soul are in semi-abstract and abstract compositions.
