Bartha & Senarclens Partners, the bespoke art investment advisory and dealer, will be presenting an international contemporary art exhibition at the Singapore Freeport from 18th May to 23rd May, 2010. This exclusive exhibition is organized exceptionally to coincide with the official opening of the Singapore FreePort. It will be open by invitation and appointment only.

Dialogues - A Selection of International Contemporary Artists features works by established and upcoming artists including Columbian artist Fernando Botero, American artists Julian Schnabel, Doug and Mike Starn and Robert Longo, English artist Marc Quinn, French artist Bernar Venet, Swiss sculptor Yves Dana, Portuguese artist Adriana Molder, Indian artists Thukral & Tagra, Samaraendra Raj Singh, Jagannath Panda and Mithu Sen, and Chinese artists Franklin Chow and Qiu Jie. The artworks span four showrooms within the Singapore FreePort and comprise a variety of media including paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographic works.

According to Frederic de Senarclens, partner and founder of Bartha & Senarclens, “this is a seminal moment for the art investment industry in Singapore and the region. We are excited about the opportunities and proud to have been invited to put together an exhibition that will coincide with the grand opening of the Singapore Freeport”.

Dialogues is the selection of an art dealer, a vision that captures the epitome of fine art. “Through this selection we seek to foster a dialogue between different cultures and techniques. We believe in these artists, the direction they are taking and the art they are producing”.

The exhibition features a superb table-top size bronze horse sculpture by Fernando Botero. The inflated and rotund horse is both endearing and playful. The innocence of this piece and itʼs smooth bronze finish offer a sharp contrast to another metal sculpture on display, a beautiful arc by Bernar Venet. Made of unpolished iron bars bent into shape, the sculpture has a raw and forceful presence.

An important work by Julian Schnabel from his series Christʼs Last Day ambitiously reveals what normally remains invisible. The large piece, which is painted upon an x-ray makes us uncomfortably aware of the inside of our own body and itʼs unique complexities. The profound piece captures the moment, we shall all inevitably face in our last hour.

In total opposition to Schnabelʼs dark piece are two large, colorful oil paintings by Young British Artist Marc Quinn. The two pieces depict impossibly beautiful flowers and celebrate nature and itʼs beauty. The masterpieces by Quinn appear almost photographic, demonstrating his incredible skill.

Recent works by Chinese artist Franklin Chow will also be on display. The artist who had a solo exhibition, Re.turn, at ION in Singapore on October 2009 is a direct descendant of Qiu Ying (1494 – 1552), one of the “Four Great Masters of Ming Painting”. Trained in Paris at La Grande Chaumière, Franklinʼs latest works combine Western oils with Chinese ink to produce innovative visual and textural effects. Recent drawings by another Chinese artist Qiu Jie are also featured.

Additionally, the exhibition includes key works by contemporary Indian artists Samaraendra Raj Singh, Jagannath Panda, Mithu Sen and Thukral & Tagra. The artists are also featured at Bartha & Senarclens ongoing exhibition Eye of India at their private gallery. A work by Samaraendra Raj Singh entitled Shining Frenzy will be unveiled for the first time. The large diptych is a sumptuous feast incorporating references to Western art, Eastern religions and Indian decorative motifs. A beautiful drawing by Mithu Sen called I Dig, I Look Down will also be shown for the first time.

“The variety and range of artists comprising the show is a delight for art lovers and collectors. Bringing influential and highly established contemporary artists to Singapore, this exhibition demonstrates our access to fine art from around the world”.
