Born in 1974, Josh PS obtained a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram in 1995 and a Masters in Fine Arts from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi in 1999. Josh PS's sepia-toned oil on canvas paintings dredge through the haze of history, memory and myth reflecting scenes and images that reference the waves of invasion and colonization that have swept over the subcontinent in past centuries. Josh's work merge contemporary and traditional by connecting with his India's historical roots. The subjects of his work are often based on pictures that have been widely circulated and are imbedded in the collective conscience, representing distinct moments in time. Josh PS bleeds his works of colour, causing them to appear as old photographs saturate with nostalgia.
