He was trained as a graphic designs at the school of Art and design, MARA institute of Technology, Anwar’s first career was in advertising. 

His creative advertising images ultimately led him to career in fine art, where he is now regarded as one of Malaysia’s most promising contemporary artists. 

Since 1975, Zakii has exhibited extensively throughout Asia, with his first solo exhibition in 1997. 

Zakii has always been well regarded in the auction market and very quickly established a regional and international market for himself as his collectors are found in southeast Asia, Hongkong, China, Taiwan, India, United Kingdom and United States of America.
