The Time Capsule
by Dahlia Gallery
Location: Dahlia Gallery
Date: 25 Mar - 3 Apr 2011

“The Time Capsule” is the creation of 4 Taiwanese artists- Rae, Kowei, Hsien-Ni Ping & Chang Wei-Lun. This exhibition is about fantasy, dream, love & adventure and the artworks are related to fictional characters created by the artists. It is a fun and wonderful collection that transport us back to our childhood momentarily and escape from this harsh and realistic world as an adult.

Rae uses Anini-a little girl with a chestnut-shaped head to share her fanciful journey to tell a story based on her memory of country life and travelling experience. Rae’s personal experience reflects on Anini’s adventure, with freedom, courage and no boundaries. We can see the rich layers of colors and diverse viewpoints, sometimes from high above, sometimes into the scenery. Rae’s Adventure Series leads us into the nature, and wakes our inborn senses in arts and nature.

Kowei’s artwork is warm, imaginative, and has an almost babyish yet intriguing style; he is also constantly exploring new possibilities. Kowei’s deepest belief is always stays true to oneself. He is inspired by chameleon and dedicated to creating artworks that showcase the spirit of “kowei” in diverse styles and forms. The fictional characters that he had chosen to express are published into 3 books 《First Love Fairy Tale ~Toma & Choco~》,《Miracles in a Masquerade》 and 《The Invisible Light》.

Hsien-Ni Ping started her creation of the “Black Sweetie”- always dresses a one-piece black peng skirt, but pretty as the princess in 2009. Her artworks study the interpersonal relationship between couple about falling in or out LOVE and also the process that actually made a woman more mature. She uses the symbol of the “Rabbit” to signify commitment and happiness with her love one.

Chang Wei-Lun’s  “Mr Man” is the 3rd series of artworks after Casper the dog and Shiou Yu the little girl. The collection of artworks reflects upon the “Secret” within us and there are moment of deep thought and self-discovery. It also question the relationship among people from our family to our love one and does “Love” really exist?

“The Time Capsule” exhibition will let you open your heart and soul like a child and may it brings new meaning and light to your life just by looking at the inspiring artworks from these 4 extra-ordinary artists.
