Chrysalis Dream
by Artesan Gallery + Studio
Location: Artesan Gallery + Studio
Artist(s): TAY Bee Aye
Date: 18 Oct - 2 Nov 2013

Artesan Gallery + Studio presents Tay Bee Aye’s first solo installation conceptualized and set inside a gallery space.

Tay Bee Aye is a Singaporean multidisciplinary visual artist. Specializing in creating public installations, Tay directly engages her audiences with social themes. Known for her evocative community art and institutional commissions, she is also a pioneer in innovative and contemporary work for children in Singapore. During Singapore Biennale 2013 , artist Tay Bee Aye will be presenting a community project/installation entitled Knot, Play, Rest which will be showcased at the Our Museum @ Taman Jurong (next to Taman Jurong Community Centre).

Artesan is delighted to concurrently present a sneak peak at Tay Bee Aye’s very own personal and amazing world entitled Chrysalis Dream. The exhibition will feature a collection of metaphoric soft sculptures and a selection from an extensive inventory of shapes, colors and pictographic symbols, transforming the gallery s[ace into a little ‘secret garden’. The artist will build up her installation in a near-obsessive fashion, blending and combining parts until she's assembled an expansive field of cosmic jigsaw comprising often of sunny and whimsical forms of flora and fauna. Tay Bee Aye's latest works in Chrysalis Dream, unveils another face, her secret desire towards metamorphic tendencies - opening up a different realm for everyone.

Bee Aye joined the workforce soon after finishing her Cambridge GCE O Level Examinations. In 1997, Tay quit her job as an accounts executive to study art full-time at Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, under the Georgette Chen Art Scholarship funded by the College. Since her graduation in 1999, Tay has participated in many arts activities and festivals, such as the 2000 & 2004 Art Festival projects at Clifford Pier for "Tracking Time" and St James Power Station for the exhibition "Reconstruction of a City". Tay had also received two Honorable Mentions at Philip Morris Singapore Art Award in 2002 and 1999, and a Commendation Award at the Singapore Power Ltd Art Competition in 1998. Tay continues to believe in communicating a 'social voice' through her fabrics, and at the same time, transform the lives of her audience by encouraging self-confidence and creative expression.
