Pleasure Spectrum by Li Cassidy-Peet sensationalises fetishes and expresses the gratification of popular culture and celebrity idolisation. Her art practice involves a variety of commonly available materials from ready-mades to everyday and industrial materials that she combines and transforms in the space. Using an eclectic mix of paraphernalia, from discarded guitar boxes and strewn cigarette packets to glitzy neon lights and shards of broken mirrors, the poetic meets the sober and the simple embraces kitsch. In this manner she seeks to create an alter-ego that anyone can relate to and through which one may escape identity and distance oneself from her or his personal environment. As such, her work possesses a psychic and sensual energy as she explores the notion of pleasure, desire and obsession.
