D’Peak Art Gallery Singapore will present  its inaugural Showcase 2009, an exhibition featuring works by masters and young rising artists from Indonesia and China. Participating artists include Ugo Untoro, Haris Purnomo, Erica Hester Wahyuni, Ekwan Marianto, Yao Jun Zhong, Ma Yue, Xie Chang Yong, Xiao Zhe Luo. Exhibition runs from 20th March till 19th April, 2009.

From playful visual allegories, arresting memoirs of images to vibrant pop art culture, Showcase 2009 brings forth the creative address on different issues and testimonies with strong narratives to artists’ own historical and cultural background. The confrontation of bringing the ‘there’ and ‘then’ to the ‘here’ and ‘now’, are highlighted in the artworks of Showcase 2009 exhibition, seeking us to investigate the real world by not just impinging attention solely on the subject, but to look out for the ‘truth’ within these artists’ interpretation of the current world.

With the objective to raise the profile of Asian art, the annual Showcase 2009  exhibition recognises artists whom have helped shape and develop the contemporary art scene of Southeast Asia significantly, with their strong individuality. With artworks specially acquired by D’Peak Art Gallery, Showcase 2009 is pleased to unveil this new consciousness that have fuelled Southeast Asian contemporary art on the international art platform.
