A rising name in the Indonesian art scene, AA Darmayuda’s realism works usually focus around the grim political and social situations of Indonesia. The artist drew his inspirations by helping to develop awareness of the plight of the underclass and common laborer. Social and cultural settings can never be detached from the art world as after all it represents the ideology of the nation or the artist of that period. Using the narrative of hands, this series of AA Darmayuda’s works convey the message of embracing peace, unity and respect for the sake of humanity.

While the painting “Relaxation”, convey a scene of tranquility that is slightly surrealistic in manner, in “Upsss…t”, adopts a heavier theme. The artist puts the blame in the hands of the executors, with his application of thick, black background dramatizes the zoomed-in image of an angry, offensive fist stopped by a soft female palm. Which AA Darmayuda explained, “The male character is usually associated with violence, while the female character is associated with non-violence, which neutralizes her male counterpart."
