Born in Tuban, Indonesia. A graduate from SMSR School of Arts in Yogyakarta. Ekwan has been participating actively in many art exhibitions since 1995. His work was selected for the BEPPU Asia Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2005, which he was later invited to showcase his works at the 2007 exhibition.

Ekwan loves to work around the theme of animals in a fun and non-hierarchical way. Mythical looking animals occur frequently in his works. By visualizing allegorically his daily stories and people surrounding him, Ekwan interpreted these testimonies of phenomenon with consideration to his own historical background in a child-like form of colours application and whimsical images. Pop and cartoon culture has been sweeping across the younger generation, which is being reflected in many artworks of young artists of Indonesia today. Ekwan’s works which stemmed from his experiences of contemporary life reveal a strong individuality and characteristic, carving him out significantly from the list of rising names of emerging Indonesian artists.
