Instant Landscape: Traveller
by Gana Art Center
Location: Seoul Auction (Gangnam Branch)
Artist(s): Nam-Pyo KIM
Date: 11 Apr - 30 Apr 2013

Gana Art is pleased to announce Nam-Pyo Kim's solo exhibition at Seoul Auction Gangnam three years after the two persons exhibition with Yong-Ho Ji. As showing a surrealistic scene with a mix of the product of human society and the nature's contents, he has established himself as an artist. After experiencing a slump, the artist decided to repeat going forward and backward like 'switch-back', which helps to get on safe. This exhibition aims to examine himself before stepping forward.

His work consists of natural landscape, icons of a machine civilization, and old-fashioned shoes, which express entangled nature and civilization, and present and past. Since his works got great attentions from the public, he felt doubts about his works and made a decision to focus on the late Joseon Dynasty era which he was interested when he was in college.

In his new series, objets representing that time and history and animals, which have nothing to do with others, enter on a scene. Nam-Pyo Kim makes repeated objets simplify and colours mingle with black and white.
History is a tool to give a force to his painting, which can be seen funny only, and nature reflects on harmful effects of human civilization. Through these tools, he aspires to the fathomless art world.
