Art Seasons Gallery is pleased to present Ying Yefu’s first solo exhibition in Singapore – Dark Tale. The native Chinese materials, exquisite technique and compositional sense that Ying utilizes place us immediately and firmly in a Chinese tradition. Ying’s work hints at a sustained exploration of Chinese Cultural memory. His use of clearly Chinese elements – like the depiction of the stories from “Shan Hai Jin”, literally "Classic of the Mountains and Seas”, a Chinese classic text of early geography and myth – is obvious way he is exploring cultural memory. The Chinese name of this exhibition could be literarily interpreted into two words “Dark” and “The truth of the life”, which metaphors Ying’s artistic techniques – using gloomy ink and color on paper – to convey his thoughts and understandings on the life and the death.
Ying Yefu (b. 1980), also known as Shen Zhe Ming Yi, started painting with a strong passion in his early childhood. He persists in this passion using aspects of memories, creating thoughtful independent ink paintings, silk screen prints, and design based artworks from a very personal and unique angle. His artworks have been exhibited in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Wenzhou, Taiwan, and the United Sates.
