Gallery Factory is presenting Taewon Heo's solo exhibition. The artist has studied painting and worked on paradox of useless of arts, artistic recycle corresponding to environment and a way to narrow a distance between arts and life. He is going to participate in 'Photo and society: Social Art' at Daejeon Museum of Art and '2013 Emerging Artists: Round-Up' at Seoul Museum of Art.
One day, I found pillars with paint job that covered the cracks of the pillars, probably done by the janitor of the building. It was interesting because the paint job seemed to present formativeness of a deliberate abstract painting. I started to wonder about the difference between the painting over the pillars done by the janitor and that by an artist. I also became curious of what the terms and conditions would be to qualify for painting. First I copied the image of the pillars onto the canvas with oil paint, and I tried to logically clarify the difference between my action and the janitor’s action. I also exemplified a similar case discussed in a book by a philosopher to explain the differences. However, the two similar painting images put me back to the initial question, “what is the difference between two paintings?” Although I did not intent to, I gradually realized why I first became interested in this sort of images, and it became clearer to me what I expect from paintings.
