Gallery EM is pleased to present 'Labyrinthian Path', the solo exhibition of Sen Chung who works in Dusseldorf and Seoul. This is second solo exhibition at the gallery. The artist well-known through oil painting giving off water color, Sen Chung's painting shows aerial images including own lyricism and imagination. In this exhibition, 25 new works will be on display.
The title 'Labyrinthian Path' means a narrow road with tangled lines or some objects, and furthermore, the artist says that it also means 'dreamlike journey attracting intuitively'. It implicitly contains the topic he has covered constantly, 'a desire for another world or a memory of passed time, or an emotional labyrinthian path happening in a memory'.
In the new works, the artist hopes that the viewers could fine 'labyrinthian path' connecting to own utopian world. For that, he created various stories as placing materials leading to the path on his works. The new works make a balance between a person and an object or a figure equally and each of them is assorted clearly. But his aerial and mysterious atmosphere is still left. Also, use of lyrical color in low chroma and painting technique like water color make the atmosphere of his painting more dreamlike and arcane.
One another important element in his work is 'blank'. A beauty of blank makes a scene look more filled. The artist presents the objects including his meanings but blank does not push it and makes a role to encourage people in imagining and understanding in own way. His paintings stimulate the viewer's subconscious with unique emotional language and lead people to the surrealistic space in his work. The space may be where heals contemporary men's exhausted mind.
