Gallery Em is pleased to announce the new exhibition 'Remix' by Jon Widman, the Korean-American artist. As the title mentioned, the artist gives a new meaning to images in old LPs as newly arranging and mixing in terms of his intention.
Usually, we pass objects in our ordinary lives by casually. Besides, breath of mind to look around becomes extravagance in the fast-changing modern society. Widman reflects that situation and little ordinary things on his work, to wish that modern people recover their composure, with polished colours and restrained composition.
His work is a result of delicate analysis for memory and history, and it shows our old hero in LP cover he collected. Graphic image, barcode, and someone's handwriting show traces of time. As arranging graphic images which are unused now but show longing for the past and analogue factors on a scene, Widman creates new image in exquisite style, or makes abstract and minimal image by layering LPs. These works don't only emphasize details we have passed by, but also create new meaning as describing a specific object. Like a LP record, Our life is also forgotten as time goes by. Thus, as using personal collections, the artist restores lost memories in a busy life and creates a new story through those memories.
