SHIFT : to change place or position; to change direction of; to change one's clothes. First opened in 1990 in Gwanganli Art Town in Busan, Johyun Gallery soon became one of the major art galleries in the region, representing leading Korean and international contemporary artists. In 2007, the gallery moved to Dalmagi hill near the famous Haeundae Beach, expanding its exhibition space to four-floored building, followed by another launch of a new space in Seoul at the heart of Chungdamdong. Since its opening, Johyun Gallery Seoul has been building its own program apart from Johyun Gallery Busan by focusing on emerging artists as well as internationally recognized mid-career artists. Showcasing works of eight young Korean artists, the exhibition SHIFT gives an overlook to the three years of progression and allows to take a peek at where the gallery is headed.
