PKM Gallery presents the solo exhibition 'Welcome, Take Care' by Wonwoo Lee, who has pursued various genres, sculpture, installation, performance, painting, photography and film.
Wonwoo Lee recently graduated Royal College of Art master's program and he has drawn attention of the reality using many factors captured from different experiences amusingly. In this exhibition, he announces sculptures made of steel, aluminum and clay, and painting. The artist brings up a conversation with audiences with the title 'Welcome, Take Care.' Between two messages, 'Welcom' and 'Take Care,' the exhibition space is transformed into a place for communication between the artist and the audience or audiences. Like 'If you’re happy and you know it then your face will surely show it,' reflecting obsessional compulsion on appearance on aluminum panel, 'Fat Coke,' cock objet in distorted shape, 'The day after boredom was born, The day after less boredom was born,' sarcastically but humorously expressed European landscape, Wonwoo lee's objets embody the artist's view observing the outside in a fresh and playful form so that it invites audiences to black humor and aesthetics of irony. Especially, directed reversal in the space beyond iron panel leads unique amusement and theatricality which have existed in performance from his early works.
Currently, Wonwoo Lee arouses favorable reviews from major art interested. He has held the first solo exhibition at alternative art space LOOP in 2012 and participated in lots of group exhibitions in Hangaram Museum, Artsonje Center, Pump House Gallery in London and so on.
