Suyoung Kim, who has received a great attention with 'Balance and Symmetry series', will exhibit the new painting works showing a part of the building surface in two years.
In 'Landscape' exhibition, she shows the detached and anonymous form of the building surface, which reminds of 'already given' condition of a life after modern times.
A cityscape full of buildings, which is a contemporary feature and ecology, represents the dystopia creating mammonism in contemporary art. Unlike this phenomenon, Suyoung Kim sees the building as a sort of 'ready-made.'
As extracting a characteristic from a style of modern architecture, painting the small part is to remove interpretation for contents, and form and function reflected in the building intentionally. Her work is similar with ready-made strategy by Duchamp, oversetting already given identity of a subject. She emphasizes the planar characteristics and reduces the most of a three-dimensional effect. Impersonality, anonymity, the planar characteristics, and a boundary between abstract and figural painting of her work will be extended to a concept of post ready-made painting.
