Indoor Constructions and Landscape Alterations

Many times through our production, we have taken elements such as the house, private and public spaces and landscape as study subjects. We have also studied how we become altered –defined- by these elements and how we, through our physical contact with them, our transit through the spaces and our interaction with these elements can also modify them back. In this project, we decided to present two of our main lines of study and production: The meticulous study of our daily life objects inside our house, and the appropriation and perception of landscape. We do however come across coincidences between both projects regarding concepts developed in both series, such as the idea of construction and the idea of alteration in a direct and an indirect way.

Indoor constructions

The interaction we have with the space that surrounds us shapes a very important part of our personality, it modifies us with the same intensity with which we transform it. The objects we use in our daily life such as clothes, kitchen implements and furniture, merge with our daily activities. These are in our case tools we use to study our transit through a regular day, and by doing so it allows us to have a better understanding of ourselves, they become tools that help us study not only our environment but also our interaction with it, and it is by pointing these objects out and by the appropriation of these intimate constructions that we can become viewers of our own life, it works like a Self-knowledge system.

Landscape alterations

Being city persons such as we are, it comes to us the need to experience and appropriate natural landscape and open spaces. However, unlike the objects we study and present in the most meticulous way because they give an account of ourselves, landscape becomes more of a subjective element for us. When it comes to landscape representation through painting , even though we analyze and study it with the same intensity with which we analyze our private space, we end up granting a higher priority to the general perception of the space and it´s elements than to objectivity in representation to get to the construction of the image. We take landscape and alter its elements to our convenience, using trees, rocks and sky as elements that can be modified for the construction of the image and therefore the perception of landscape. We produce images that allow us to modify these landscapes to make them a part of ourselves, experiencing landscape through painting.
