The artist Lee Jung’s latest series of works tackle issues of feminism and broader issues of what can loosely be described as modern explorations of “Orientalism.” Her works revolve on the theme that identity is a relative concept defined by the “gaze of others” dominated by stereotypes. Her “Bordering North Korea” works are stunning in their use of the mysterious and beautiful landscapes of North Korea. Her insertion of North Korean propaganda onto the images emphasize the tragic reality of North Korea as one of the “strangest” places in the East.
Jung was born in 1972 and currently lives and works in Seoul, Korea. She received her M.A. in Photography from the Royal College of Art, UK. She received her B.A. with honors in Photography from Kent Institute of Art & Design, UK and a B.A. with honors in Mass Communication & Journalism from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea.
