Arario Gallery Seoul is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition 'Beyond the Veil' by Philippine artist Geraldine Javier. Javier is one of leading contemporary artists in South-East Asia. Since 1995, Javier has received the great attention with elaborate paintings and sculptures. This is her second exhibition in Korea after first one in 2011. Under the theme 'appearance of death and various ways to deal with it', five paintings, two large-scale sculptures, and eight photographs, which show South-East Asia contemporary art, will be exhibited.
"This exhibition doesn't talk about death accepted calmly, but it's about someone struggling and screaming to avoid death. In here, I try to show appearance of it and the various ways to accept. This is one of ways to express my anxiety." - Artist's statement
Imagination for life and death is not exceptional in art as well. Also, these concepts accompany destiny, freedom, judge and fate. Thus, people have researched about lifetime companion, an object of fear and refusal, and other elements relating to death. These were recreated as fascinating stories and symbolic icons through arts. As referring to such existing expression ways, Javier used icons of death, such as Mary Magdelene, Grim Reaper and Three Fates, in her works.
