Folkert De Jong carves a human shape in physical size with polyurethane and polystyrene. The artist reconstitute a situation which reveals  a dark side of human, such the war or a power struggle in the history, with this sculpture. His work is consist of harmonized vivid colours on rough surface exposed a property of material. His interests are human body, history and darkness of inner side. Thus, he brings real person from the history for his sculpture, and paints on it. 'The Balance' in 2010 is about the unconscionable bargain in an era of colonialism. He used person Peter de minuit from the Netherlands in 17th century, who bought Manhattan from Amerindian with an unfair bargain. Folkert De Jong shows that unfair and dismal historical cases still exist now. Also, his drawings also express historical characters with his own colour and view.
