LEE Kyoungha graduated from Ewha Women’s University, majoring in Korean language and literature. Then, she graduated the College of Fine Arts, Seoul National University (SNU) and completed SNU graduate school, majoring in painting. Lee had her first solo exhibition, “Travel in Strange Land” in 2009, and participated in a lot of group exhibitions held at the KEPCO Art Center, SAMPIO Space, Interalia Art Company, etc. The artist often expresses space and the subjects through different materials and arranges them in one picture. In most cases, she uses charcoal for space and paints the subjects in oils. For Lee, space is eternal, infinite, expanding and undefined in nature. The subjects, in contrary, are limited, artificial, material and realistic. The sharp contrast she applies onto canvas symbolizes the conflicted moments in society and the life in such moments. The contrast composition becomes neutralized through the views’ eye. Lee says the very moment of neutralization is where the view’s life is placed.
