Spring
by fnart space
Location: fnart space
Artist(s): Sung Sil KIM, Yu Lim SONG
Date: 6 Mar - 9 Apr 2013

fnart is pleased to feature the new exhibition 'Spring' of new artists 'Sung Sil Kim and Yu Lim Song. Two artists tell a different story but deliver the spring energy with their works made of mesh, thread, and cotton.
Sewing has been the part of women culture for a long time. It was a symbol of female virtues. As growing the economy, sewing has become cultural activity to women. In this exhibition, sewing and knitting works will be exhibited as art.

Through her collected children's drawings, Sung Sil Kim's work is a new perspective and analysis of children's imagination. After seeing her cousin's drawing consisting of free curves and breeze ideas, she got a desire for healing her forced emotions. However, she already lost emotions and expression methods in childhood, so that she created a rag doll using children's drawings.
She has consistently used a cotton. A cotton is a medium stimulating various sight and touch effects, which makes audience remind of protect and healing. Also, she used a soil for this exhibition. As adopting casting technique, she sewed a doll on soil, and add a cotton on it, thus she enjoyed to reverse existing property of medium she used.

The artist Yu Lim Song wanted to talk about 'anxiety', so that she cites a novel 'Bleak House' by Charles Dickens, which shows personal desire and anxiety through conflicts each character facing with. Unlike previous works comprised of words recombining, she focuses on own texts and images, and result is also placed in a private territory. In this exhibition, only one text 'malady' is showed directly. In addition, the artist suggests the title 'A disease to anxiety, and a series of list' together. The actual story she tries to say is disease in her mind, not bottles displayed in the exhibition.
