Vessel, Vessels
by Gallery Gahoedong 60
Location: Gallery Gahoedon60
Artist(s): Gyung-Hwa JEONG
Date: 30 Oct - 8 Nov 2012

A vessel is  frank, while a furniture is closed. The furniture in painting is where the vessel is placed and means a sign at the same time. Old box or drawer is the place where valuable articles should be kept well. The vessel is opened space to stranger, while the furniture refuses one. The furniture, a place to isolate vessels or objet from the reality, emphasizes the planar characteristic in terms of expression.
There is another character of still lifes, which is reiteration of space and view. In her painting, furniture and vessel are showed up repeatedly, these exist in a scene together with having different dimension. Again, the vessel is expressed delicately and in three, but the furniture is solid, so that two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces are co-existing in one scene. This concept is similar with 'surface effect' by Gilles Deleuze, which means that creation of meaning is not from an object itself, but from relationship. Reiteration of different dimension makes relationship and provides motif of creation each other. Reiteration of space and view is not mimesis which makes visual specter, but brings us to a logical problem. Contradict awareness is a tool to redefine an optical thing as conceptual one.
